The Library
Reflections, resources & curated reads.
Welcome to the Library — the brainy corner of the house.
When I first moved abroad, I would have given anything for a resource that got it — the cultural weirdness, the identity whiplash, the ache of becoming someone new far from home. That’s why I started writing this blog in the first place.
Back then, it was called Girls’ Guide to Living Abroad.
Because I wasn’t looking for travel hacks. I was looking for stories — the kind that make you feel seen in your loneliness, your longing, your mess. Stories like Clan of the Cave Bear, the first book that ever gutted me and shaped me — a gift from my mom, and a quiet nod to the name she gave me. (My half-sister still calls me Ayla.)
This room is a living bookshelf — full of essays, reflections, curated reads, and writer spotlights that echo what I once needed most:
A place to come when you're trying to figure out who the hell you are now.
This is where you’ll find the frameworks, tools, guides, and deep dives to help you map your life abroad with more clarity and less overwhelm — whether you’re still dreaming, actively planning, or already mid-move.
It’s a clear-eyed spot for confident decisions.
Take your time, explore the shelves, and grab whatever helps — from personality quizzes and destination databases to practical templates and playbooks. This is the stuff we wished we had when we were starting out.

Hi, I'm Quinn O' Riley. I'm living in the U.S. but have a dream of living in France and am working to make it real. My new Substack publication titled, Spreading Kindness, was started last week. I'm still in learning mode and figuring things out - I don't even know how to link it in this post. Oh well, I'll get there but hope it grows and makes a difference in someone's life. I'm also a cat lover and will be sharing photos of my Mr. Joy.
