Open House: Let Me Take You On A House Tour
Step inside. Kick off your shoes. Let me show you around.
You’ve seen house tours — bright kitchens, tidy hallways, a well-placed fern or two. But this one’s different.
A home built from stories, not just bricks. A place where you can lay down your bags, catch your breath, and remember why you came all this way.
This space was made for you to find your own version of belonging — and to have something solid to hold onto when everything feels-in-between. Welcome. You’re right on time.
Be sure to subscribe so you’ll always be the first to hear when something new is cooking, simmering, unfolding or ready to explore in the house.
For this week only, enjoy 25% off all monthly and annual paid and Keyholder memberships. This offer won’t be around for long — grab your spot and make yourself at home.
🎥 Come Take the Tour with Me — LIVE Today
I’ll walk you through every room, point out what lives where, and help you find the bits that fit your version of this life abroad thing.
🕓 Time — today at 4PM Thailand time (10 am London time, 11am Paris time)
I’ll be serving mojitos (digitally, unfortunately). 🍹
Replay available for anyone horizontal at that time.
📍 Right here on Home Abroad
The door’s open. Sunlight’s pouring in.
There’s a half-drunk coffee on the desk, a mural in progress on the wall, and Miso’s stretched out across the carpet like she owns the place. (She does.)
This house wasn’t built in a day — or for one type of person.
It’s for anyone who’s ever asked, What if I lived somewhere else — and actually made it work?
Some of us are already here, planting roots in unfamiliar soil.
Some are still circling the idea, waiting for a sign, a plan, a push.
This is the space between those places — a house for all of it.
Inside, you’ll find rooms built for different kinds of living:
The messy kind. The expansive kind. The kind that makes you cry and file forms at the same time.
And today, you get the full tour.

🎥 Join me live for the walkthrough at 4pm Thailand time (10am London time)
🐾 Miso will be joining, obviously. She has notes.
🪞 The Living Room
This is the part of the house where we get honest.
Throw yourself onto the big squishy sofa, wrap up in a blanket, and scroll through the essays that name the ache you’ve been carrying. The Living Room is where feelings live. It’s where we talk about grief, identity, change, and midlife WTF moments — the real stuff we’re all feeling but don’t always say out loud.

Personal essays
Second Look Sundays
Mini vlogs

🗂 The Office
Where the grown-up stuff lives — but still with good lighting and the occasional breakdown.
This is your go-to room for visas, housing, digital work setups, and all the other delightfully overwhelming parts of moving or living abroad. But don’t worry — I’ll never throw you a 92-point checklist without also offering tea and commiseration.

The heart of the house. And also where I hide my chocolate.

🐾 A Note from Miso the House Cat:
”Welcome to my home. I’m happy to share it with you in exchange for cuddles and pats. Now move over, that’s my spot.”
See you inside,
KKxx
I just think this is a brilliant and creative substack for expats and wannabe expats. Your drawings are fantastic, and having rooms for different aspects of living abroad is truly impressive -- WOW! I wish I had found you AND Substack 30 years ago, but oops. No internet then. That's when I leaped into Mexico and have been here since then. What an asset and assistance you are providing. Love your writing style, too. If you ever need a guest essay on Ajijic, Mexico, I'm your go-to person. At 81, I'm finished with my wanderlust, so I won't be a subscriber, but wish you all the best. Blue
If I can't make it, have a wonderful open house. I will see you on replay. Sending love. 💕
